Creating a simple rollover button

You can create a simple two-state button in the Button Editor.

To create a two-state button:

1 Choose Insert > New Symbol to open the Symbol Properties dialog box.
2 Choose the Button symbol type, name the button, and click OK.
The Button Editor opens to the Up state tab.
3 In the work area of the Button Editor, place a graphic that will appear as the button's Up state:
Use the drawing and editing tools to create a graphic.
Import or drag and drop a graphic into the Button Editor.
Import a button from a Fireworks button library. For information, see Inserting a button from an external source.
4 Choose Onion Skinning so you can visually align each button state graphic.
5 Click the Over tab.
6 Place an Over state graphic that will appear as the button's Over state:
Click Copy Up Graphic to paste a copy of the Up state graphic into the Over window, and then edit it to change its appearance.
Create a unique Over state graphic.
Import a graphic into the Over window.
7 Skip the Down and Over While Down tabs. They are not used when creating a simple rollover button.
8 Click the Active Area tab.
The Button Editor automatically creates a slice the size of the button symbol's bounding box. The slice updates when you edit a graphic in any state.
9 Click the Link Wizard to attach a URL to the rollover.
For more information on the Link Wizard, see Attaching a URL to the button.

When you close the Button Editor, the button appears in the Library and an instance of the button appears in the document. When you move or resize the button as a unit, all the states and the active area are moved or resized.

To place additional copies of a button in the document:

Drag the button from the Library to the document, creating an instance of that button.
