You can create a simple two-state button in the Button Editor.
To create a two-state button:
1 | Choose Insert > New Symbol to open the Symbol Properties dialog box. |
2 | Choose the Button symbol type, name the button, and click OK. |
The Button Editor opens to the Up state tab. | |
3 | In the work area of the Button Editor, place a graphic that will appear as the button's Up state: |

4 | Choose Onion Skinning so you can visually align each button state graphic. |
5 | Click the Over tab. |
6 | Place an Over state graphic that will appear as the button's Over state: |

Click Copy Up Graphic to paste a copy of the Up state graphic into the Over window, and then edit it to change its appearance. |

Import a graphic into the Over window. |
7 | Skip the Down and Over While Down tabs. They are not used when creating a simple rollover button. |
8 | Click the Active Area tab. |
The Button Editor automatically creates a slice the size of the button symbol's bounding box. The slice updates when you edit a graphic in any state. | |
9 | Click the Link Wizard to attach a URL to the rollover. |

When you close the Button Editor, the button appears in the Library and an instance of the button appears in the document. When you move or resize the button as a unit, all the states and the active area are moved or resized.
To place additional copies of a button in the document:
Drag the button from the Library to the document, creating an instance of that button.
